A Union City man was arrested without incident Saturday, following the discovery by South Fulton Police Department officers that Jayveon McElrath, 20, of Union City, Tenn., a suspect in a shooting incident in Union City, was inside an apartment at South Fulton's Southside Manor.

According to South Fulton Police Chief Mitchell Maynard, a South Fulton Police officer was responding to a complaint at the apartment complex at approximately 10 a.m. May 21, regarding a property dispute. While at the scene, the department was also alerted to a possible armed individual, who was a person of interest in a Union City Police Department investigation, in one of the apartments.

Chief Maynard was able to make contact with McElrath, by phone, speaking with him for a period of time and ultimately, McElrath was arrested without incident, and transported to the Obion County jail.

Assistance was provided to the SFPD by the Obion County Sheriff's Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Fulton Police Department, with residents of the adjacent apartments in proximity to where McElrath was located, evacuated by officers.

Chief Maynard said McElrath's warrant listed an attempted murder charge, associated with a shooting incident in Union City on May 20.

Officers were at the scene from 10 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday.
