AREA OBITUARIES -- Mary Julia McClain Owens Griffith
Mrs. Mary Julia McClain Owens Griffith, 92, of Latham-Palmersville area passed away December 6, 2022 at the Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden, Tenn.
She was born June 7, 1930 in Dukedom, Tenn., daughter of late Thomas Alvie and Elizabeth Roten McClain.
Mary was a member of Knob Creek Church of Christ in Dukedom, Tenn., and the Eastern Star of Fulton, Ky.
She attended Dresden High School. She married and moved to Detroit, Mich., with her family. There she worked for the Ford Motor Company. Later her family returned to Latham-Palmersville, where she worked at several local manufacturing companies.
When her family moved to Fulton, Ky., Mary worked several years at Wade Furniture Company. Upon retirement she returned to the Latham- Palmersville area where she enjoyed her garden, flowers, farming and was the Best Cook in the Country!
She is survived by her son, Billy Owens (Vicki) of Fulton; and her daughter, Connie Barnes Maynord (Chris) of Hendersonville, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Dominic Verderese Barnes (Corey) of Chicago, Ill., Wendy Owens Puckett (Paul) of Fulton, Ky., and Scott Owens (Amy) of Camden, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter Sophie Owens; and a sister, Jeanette Pentecost Pollock of San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Griffith, and her youngest grandson, Matthew Lyn Barnes, also the father of her children, Gene Owens; her brothers and sisters, Rev. Jack McClain, Johnnie Greth, J.L. McClain, Juanita Hawks, Bob McClain, Jane Driver Tunnicliff, Jenna Vincent Pewitt, Baby Joe McClain, Thomas Alvie, Jr., and Doris McClain Parise.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. December 10, 2022 at the Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel of Fulton from 11 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service.
