SFHS teams over ride FHS; Lady Devils win vs OCCHS
South Fulton High School Red Devils recorded a win against Fulton’s Bulldogs Dec. 9, 56-52, after a loss to Obion County Central Dec. 6, 55-22.
SFHS 56, FHS 52
Against the host Bulldogs, Red Devil Brady McFarland scored a game high 18 points, followed closely by team mate Conner Allen, who had 16 points on the night.
McFarland connected on six 2-point baskets from the field, added another from three-point range and was good on three of five free throw attempts.
Allen also recorded a three-point basket, with an additional four two-pointers, and was successful on five of his eight trips to the line.
Fulton’s Daveon Cheirs had 14 points for the Bulldogs, coming from his own connection from three point range and four two-point baskets .Cheirs was good for three of his four free throws. Fulton’s Jamar Martin had 10 points in the game, with Jamal Martin scoring eight points from two three point baskets and a two point goal.
South Fulton was on top, 19-14 at the end of the first round of play, then was outscored by the Bulldogs, 12-9 in the second quarter, to end the first half with a 28-26 Red Devil lead.
In the second half, South Fulton took their lead further with a 17 point run to the Bulldogs’ 12, with another Bulldog surge in the fourth when they outscored the visiting Red Devils, 14-11.
With the final buzzer, the Red Devils prevailed, 56-52.
Red Devil Charles Michael Mulcahy had 11 points for South Fulton, courtesy of four two-point baskets and connecting on three of five free throws. Riley Alexander had five points, with a two and three point goal, Dane Cirkles had four points and Dylan Ruddle, two points for the Devils.
Fulton’s Jamar Martin had 10 points for the Bulldogs, with Jamal Martin adding eight points, which included two three point buckets. Jacob Madding and Isaiah Kimble had five points each for the host Bulldogs, Tristan Lalley had four and Brandon Maclin and Cameron Morris had three points each on the night.
SFHS 22, OCC 55
The Red Devils went up against Obion County Central Rebels Dec. 9, unable to come away with a victory, with the Rebels taking the win, 55-22.
Obion County Central held the Devils scoreless in the first quarter, 12-0, and held on to a 21-6 lead at the end of the first half.
South Fulton outscored the Rebels with 13 points in the third to Obion County Central’s 10, but in the fourth quarter, the Devils managed 3 points to the Rebels’ 24, securing a win by OCC, 55-22.
Conner Allen had 7 points for South Fulton, with a two and three point basket, with Brady McFarland recording a two point bucket and hitting two of three free throws.
Conner O’Neal had 5 points for South Fulton, Heath Harris, 3 and Mulcahy, 1.
Obion County Central’s Wyatt Cunningham had 16 points for their win, and Jake O’dell, 9.
SFHS 56, OCC 32
South Fulton’s Lady Red Devils came away with a win versus Obion County Central’s Lady Rebels Dec. 6, 56-32.
The Lady Devils took a 15-6 first quarter lead and broadened it to a 26-15 advantage going into the second half. The third quarter saw Central manage 8 points, to the Lady Devils’ 9, but the final quarter of play, South Fulton surged ahead putting up 21 points to the Lady Rebels’ 9, and ending the night in their favor for the win.
South Fulton’s Maddie Gray had 21 points, three twos and four threes, Abbie McFarland shot 2 of two free throws to include in her 16 points in the game, with Katie Barclay scoring 5 points which included a three and one two-point goal.
Lady Devil Anna Gore scored 10 points, and Addison Wilson and Aubree Gore, 2 each.
SFHS 65, FHS 17
On their trip across the state line to the Fulton High School gym Dec. 9, the Lady Devils handed their hosts a 65-17 loss.
Gray scored 21 points against the Lady Bulldogs, with Anna Gore scoring 13, Aubree Gore, 8, Katie Barclay, 10, Abbie McFarland, 7 and Jadyn Rushin and Reagan Johnson, 2 points each in the SFHS victory.
For Fulton’s Lady Bulldogs, Mia Martin led her team with 13 points, Desarae Johnson had 3 and Makenna Naugle, 1 point.
South Fulton stayed on top all four quarters of play, 18-4 in the first, 42-11 at the end of the second, 59-11 in the third, and 65-11 for the final score at the buzzer.
SFHS 46, Lipscomb 52
On Dec. 7, the Lady Devils fell to Lipscomb, 52-46.
The first quarter South Fulton put 14 points on the board to their opponent’s 19, and outscored Lipscomb in the second quarter, 13-10. The Lady Devils then doubled Lipscomb’s points, 10 to 5 in the third quarter, but Lipscomb returned the favor in the fourth, putting 18 points up to South Fulton’s 9, ending the game, 52-46.
Gray had 23 points for South Futon, three two’s and three three’s, Aubree Gore had 6 and Anna Gore, 7. Abbie McFarland had four two-point baskets and was two for two at the line for her 10 points in the game.
