GIBSON ELECTRIC CUSTOMERS ALERTED TO CONSERVE ELECTRICITY, POTENTIAL ROLLING BLACKOUTS COULD OCCUR

December 23, 2022

THE FOLLOWING RELEASE HAS BEEN RECEIVED FROM GIBSON ELECTRIC:

TVA has asked Gibson Electric Membership Corporation and other local power companies to do rolling blackouts. We must interrupt power for 15 minutes in an area, restore power and then interrupt power to another area. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and sincerely appreciate your patience.

TVA and Gibson Electric Membership Corporation are requesting voluntary reductions of nonessential electric use. We realize it is very cold, but we are asking our member-owners to help conserve power as much as possible. If you can add layers of clothing and turn the thermostat down a little that will help. Please also cut off lights (including decorative lighting) where you can and delay use of appliances if possible. We will sincerely appreciate our members’ help with this TVA request.

Also, Gibson Electric Membership Corporation members from across our 12-county northwestern Tennessee and western Kentucky service area have experienced outages since last night. The outages have been caused by wind and the extreme cold temperatures. Our crews have been working continuously to restore power to everyone. Currently, we have 662 members who are without power. Service has been restored to everyone in Kentucky, but we still have outages scattered across our eight counties in Tennessee. We will restore power to these members as quickly as we safely can.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We know that it is especially difficult for our members when the temperatures are this cold. We appreciate our members’ patience and understanding. We also appreciate our employees who have worked incredibly hard in very difficult weather conditions.
