GIBSON ELECTRIC, FULTON ELECTRIC ROLLING BLACKOUTS RETURN FOR CHRISTMAS EVE

December 24, 2022

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY THE CURRENT REGARDING ROLLING BLACKOUTS.

FROM FULTON ELECTRIC SYSTEM:

Fulton Electric System will today, once again, resume rolling power outages.

In a press release issued by Tennessee Valley Authority and forwarded by Fulton Electric System, TVA states typical power demands for December are around 24,000 megawatts and on Dec. 23, 2022, power demands surpassed 33,000 megawatts.

To help ensure the stability of the power grid across the entire region, TVA implemented and directed prepared plans to temporarily reduce power loads, working directly with local power companies.

FROM GIBSON ELECTRIC:

The Tennessee Valley Authority contacted Gibson Electric Membership Corporation this morning and required us to begin rolling blackouts at 4:51 AM. We must interrupt power for 15 minutes in an area, restore power and interrupt power to another area. We must continue rotating blackouts until TVA informs us that we can stop.

Reducing energy demand in a systematic, planned way helps to keep the power grid stable and prevents longer, widespread power outages.

TVA also has requested that consumers voluntarily reduce electricity use. During the times when you are not impacted by a rotating blackout, we ask that you take steps to conserve.

We recognize that power interruptions are inconvenient, especially during cold weather and the holiday season. We apologize and ask for your continued patience and understanding.
