INTERIM TOURISM COMMISSION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RESIGNS

January 13, 2023

Following a return from executive session into open public session, near the end of tonight's Fulton Tourism Commission meeting, Interim Executive Director Kenney Etherton submitted his letter of resignation to Tourism Commission board members Derrick Jackson, Melanie Gunn, Connie Smith and Meribeth Gallimore.

The board accepted Etherton's resignation from the post he was hired to fill last year, when then Executive Director Thea Vowell resigned.

Etherton's resignation will take effect Feb. 3.

Following the acceptance the Tourism board approved the hiring of Etherton as a consultant for up to five months, at $1250 per month, to assist with the office operations until which time the position will be filled.

Among other items approved at the 5:30 p.m. meeting, was a tentative budget for the 2023 Banana Festival, plans for the first festival organizational meeting later this month, summer events, the formation of a community decorating committee which would include a member of the Tourism Commission, and the sharing of a Summer intern with the Fulton-Hickman Counties EDP.
