Pecan Fest entries sought for 5K, Bake-off, Lip Sync, Pie Eating

Hickman Pecan Fest, scheduled for Sat., Nov. 11, is just over two weeks away and entries are now being sought for contests and competitions which will be included in the day-long event.

The River Rat 5K Run registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., with a start time of 8 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Fulton County Courthouse in Hickman, 114 East Wellington St.

Participants will “run the hills of Hickman” with the designated finish line at Fulton County High School.

Early registration online earns a free t-shirt for adult participants. Adult registration is $20, and student registration is $10. Registration on site the day of the race is $25.

Water stations will dot the route and snacks will be available at the finish line.

Participants may be dropped off at the courthouse for the race start, or may park at Fulton County High School and use the shuttle service to be provided, for a ride to the courthouse.

Area bakers will have the opportunity to compete in the Pecan Festival Bake-Off, with all entries required to be dropped off between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. at Hickman’s Jeff Green Memorial City Park.

All items must be home made, and be brought to the entry site in a covered, disposable container.

Items which require refrigeration will not be accepted. Winners will be awarded for two different age divisions, Junior category for ages 9-18, and Senior category for ages 19 and older. All participants must reside in Fulton County, and all items submitted for the bake-off must include pecans.

There is no entry fee to participate.

Categories include Cake/Cupcake, with 1/4 of a cake or 4 whole cupcakes required to be submitted; Pie, 1/4 of a pie must be submitted; Cookie, 4 individual cookie to be submitted; and Brownie/Bar, 4 individual pieces to be submitted.

Items will be judged on general appearance, texture and flavor.

Winners will be announced Nov. 11, with first, second and third place ribbons to be awarded in each category and an overall Grand Champion winner to receive a cash prize.

The Pecan Lip Sync Battle registration must be submitted by 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at Hickman’s Jeff Green Memorial City Park.

The actual Lip Sync Battle will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. All music used for the competition must not contain any vulgar lyrics and be appropriate for public, family-oriented areas.

A $100 cash prize awaits the winner, and there is no entry fee to participate.

A Kids’ Pie Eating Contest will be held at 2 p.m. at the park, with registration to take place at the park prior to the event. Age divisions are ages 5-9; ages 10-14; and ages 15-18, with a winner named in each round.

There is no entry fee to participate.
