Carter seeks to grow, expand team’s fundamentals

This year’s Fulton High School Lady Bulldogs will get the benefit of a daughter/dad dynamic duo at the helm, with the addition of Fulton Middle School teacher Bethany Seratt Carter now in the Head Softball Coach position, joined by her father, Chuck Seratt, as Assistant Coach.

Carter has years of experience on the softball field herself, playing for South Fulton High School longtime softball Coach Curt Lee, and during some of those periods, her dad served as Lee’s assistant coach.

Carter said she sees a great future ahead for the Lady Bulldogs and is excited to be a part of it.

“I am so proud to work with these young ladies. My goal for my first season with the Lady Bulldogs, will be to grow and expand our knowledge of the game, together and get a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of this game,” she said.

The 15-player roster for the 2024 season includes four returns, and 11 new players.

Three Lady Bulldogs will share pitching duties, Madison Acosta, Jnyia Robinson and McKayla Thorn.

Both Acosta and Robinson will be utility players as well and when not pitching, Thorn will be at second.

Lily Haley will alternate between short stop and outfield, while Katrina Bailey will be behind the plate to catch.

Aleena Johnson will play outfield, Rio Lang will go in at short stop and third base, and R’Tisia Walker will rotate in and out at short stop, second base, and the out field.

First base will be set for Christiana Mitchell and Shae-Lynn Hagerty, and second base will be covered by Dariana Cole, Ja’Quasia Hendrix and Karlee Papierski.

When not on second, Hendrix will alternate between out field and short stop, and when Papierski is not at second, she will see time at catcher. Hagerty will also be called on to catch.

Cambria Walker will play out field, Diamond Holder at third and Dariana Cole, at second.

This year’s team, according to Carter, includes a number of younger players, but those seem to be the leaders rising to lift up other team members.

“My eighth graders just seem to be perfect at pushing everyone on the team to work harder,” Coach Carter said.

With youth, often come inexperience, however the first year Coach believes that challenge will be overridden by the team’s sincere desire to learn.

“They are all eager,” she said.

The 2024 Lady Bulldogs strengths are evident in their excitement to be at practice, and their high level energy.

“They soak up all they can, and that’s a strength that will pay off,” Carter said.
