Devils’ historic season ends at State Tournament

The South Fulton High School baseball state championship run consisted of two games, against North Greene in the first round and South Pittsburg in the second round.

The Red Devils fell to the North Greene Huskies 1-6 May 25. The contest was scoreless through the top of the fourth until the Huskies put up three runs in the fourth inning. The Red Devils came back in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to two runs, 1-3. North Greene tacked on an additional three runs in the seventh inning.

Bryce McFarland batted a .500 on the night earning one hit for his two at bats. McFarland came around to score the lone Red Devil run.

Brock Brown spent seven innings on the mound for the Red Devils. Brown allowed nine hits while striking out five of 32 batters he faced.

The Red Devils finished just one run behind South Pittsburg in order to advance to the next round of the state championship.
South Pittsburg jumped ahead of the Red Devils in the bottom of the first inning. The Red Devils fought back in the top of the second to tie the contest at one. South Pittsburg tacked on another run in the fourth inning. The Red Devils took the lead in the top of the sixth scoring three runs. South Pittsburgh gained the lead back scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth putting them two runs in front. The Red Devils attempted to get back on top in the top of the seventh putting up one run to bring the final score to 5-6.

Eli Carlisle had a .667 batting average for the contest having two hits for his three at bats.

Cade Malray pitched five and two thirds innings. Malray recorded three strikeouts and one walk for the 32 batters faced.

Eli Carlisle finished pitching for the Red Devils one third inning striking one the one batter he faced.

South Fulton 6

Lake County 7

The Red Devils baseball team finished as runner ups in the region after falling to Lake County 6-7.

The Red Devils jumped ahead with two runs in the first while holding the Falcons scoreless in the bottom of the inning. The Red Devils went scoreless in the top of the second, however the Falcons jumped on top putting up three runs in the bottom of the second. Another scoreless inning for the Red Devils in the third, while the Falcons found a way to track on another run. The Red Devils found a way to put up a run the fourth inning and holding the Flacons to bring the score to 3-4. The Falcons put up a combined three runs in the fifth and sixth inning. The Red Devils put up their final three runs in the seventh inning to make the final score 6-7.

Beau Britt finished the contest batting a .750 with three hits at this four at bats. Britt came around to score once and had one RBI.

Drew Barclay had a .500 for the contest, having two hits for this four at bats.

Brock Brown was charged with the pitching loss, after being on the mound for six innings. Brown allowed 11 hits, one walk and struck out six batters.

South Fulton 10

Middle College 0

The Red Devils finished on top of Middle College during the substate contest played in Memphis, Tenn. May 22 after having to be rescheduled for the eight seniors on the team to be able to attend both their graduation and substate contest.

The Red Devils swept Middle College 10-0, tying the school record for most wins in a season with 23 wins and 11 losses.

Cade Malray was on the mound for the Red Devils for the entirety of the game, pitching a no hitter. Malray faced 18 batters, walked two, and struck out 11.

Drew Barclay and Bryce McFarland had a .500 batting average with one hit for their two at bats. McFarland and Barclay each came around to score twice. McFarland had two RBIs.

Garrett Slaughter had a batting average of .667 for the contest with two hits for his three at bats. Slaughter came around to score once.
