Fulton County athlete finishes eighth in State

Fulton County High School athletes participated in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class 1A Track and Field State competition held June 2 at the University of Kentucky’s Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Ky.

Out of 27 competitors, Omarion Pierce, a Junior, finished in 8th Place in the High Jump, after being ranked last going into the event. Pierce set a Personal Record with a Mark of 5-10, earning .5 points.

Fulton County’s Dakyran Gossett, recent graduate, tied for 11th Place with a Mark of 5-8.

The High Jump was won by ninth grader Nate Goodin of Williamsburg with a Mark of 6-2.

Ja’Mesha Brown was entered in the Girls Shot Put, however she did not start.

The Girls Long Jump was won by Chloe Hein of Walden, who is in the State Top 25 earned the top position, from a field of 24 competitors, with a Mark of 17-4, including Attempt 1, 17-7; Attempt 2, 17.0; Attempt 3, 16-5; Attempt 4, 16-3; Attempt 5, 16-2; and Attempt 6, 16-8.

Fulton County’s Javona Davis earned 13th Place in the Girls Long Jump with a Mark of 14-5. Her attempts included #1, 13-2; #2, 14-5; and #3, 13-4.

From a field of 24 competitors, the Boys Triple Jump was won by Jacob Rogers of Pikeville, State Top 50, with a Mark of 41-10.75. His attempts were 41-6; 40-4; F; 40-5; 40-9; and 41-10.75.

Dakyran Gossett of Fulton County earned 9th Place with a Mark of 38-9.75. His attempts included 38-7.25; F; 38-9.75; 35-1; 36-9; and 36-5.25.

Javona Davis, a Junior at Fulton County, participated in the Girls 100 Meter Dash.

The event was won by Taesha Sparks, Ranked State #1, of Paris with a time of 12.24. Davis earned 11th Place with a time of 13.33.

The Girls 4x200 Meter Relay was won by a team from Bishop Brossart “A”, consisting of Kaitlyn Kramer, Hayley Hickman, Hannah Kramer, and Lexi Braun. They had a time of 1:49.12.

Fulton County’s team of Javona Davis, Ja’Mesha Brown, Jaleeha Smith and Anijiha Tucker earned 12th Place with a 1:54.68, out of a field of 24 competitors.

The Girls 4x100 Meter Relay came in 23rd Place, out of 24 competitors with a time of 56.74. The team consists of Ja’Mesha Brown, Javona Davis, Jaleeha Smith, and Anijiha Tucker.

Owensboro Catholic “A” won the Girls 4x100 Meter Relay with a tie of 51.89. Their team included Carol Staples, Maleigha Shelton, Mallary Bailey, and Emilee Cecil.

Fulton County’s Omarion Pierce participated in the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles and earned 10th Place, out of a field of 24 competitors, with a Personal Record and a time of 44.50. Connor Dill, State Top 10, from University Heights, with a time of 39.89.

Fulton County’s Corey Smith still holds the State Record in Class 1A, from 1990, in Boys Long Jump at 23-11.

Sharika Smith, of Fulton County holds the record in Class 1A, from 2007, in the Girls Triple Jump, at 39-3.25.
