Acting Director to request funds from Fiscal Court

The Senior Citizens of Fulton County Board of Directors met Oct. 18, at the Senior Center in Hickman with seven members present including Chuck Moffatt, Sharon Johnson, Laverne Sublette, Peggy Tribble, Julia Davis, Jeanette Moore, and Johnny Lattus.

Board member Pat Frazier was absent.

New Board member Sharon Johnson was introduced to the group.

Acting Director Sandra S. Bolin presented the financial report stating, “At the end of September the balance is $6,749.65. This does not include the Fulton County Transit Authority. When we started in June, I thought we were caught up with everything, but there were two bills to the Transit we hadn’t paid. We are now building up to the point, and after talking to Kenney Etherton with the Transit, we have worked out a deal and I have already sent him a payment this month and probably three more. I just finished Quarterly Taxes and all bills that have to be paid today, and I can get almost caught up on the Transit.”

“I will send a letter asking Fiscal Court, they have $6,500 set aside for the Senior Centers. Judge Jim Martin told me that had been set aside when they thought they would have to close the Fulton Center, but the Fulton Center has really come up this past month on the different programs. Fulton had 85 people to sign up for the exercise program and this allows the Senior Center to receive $5 for each one from the state and federal levels. Seniors also listen to different programs and also at the Hickman Center,” continued Bolin.

Bolin reported each month they are ending with just a little bit more money. The Centers are down $8,000 compared to last year because people are a little slower as far as people coming and one Transit rider no longer comes.

“I would say we are at around $4,000 after we catch up with the Transit, to start out in November. The only funding we get on transportation is the people who ride to the Center. Fulton only had two. Hickman has three, sometimes four. We do not get funding for food being delivered and that is what we are being charged,” stated Bolin.

Bolin said, “We were cut $10,000 for our transportation and the donations from individuals helps out.”

A joint Halloween party with both Centers will be held Oct. 29 in Hickman. Board members were encouraged to attend. A costume contest, three categories, eat, play Bingo and a couple of other games.

It was noted $1,403 was raised at the Hickman Yard Sale and Fulton hosted a Yard Sale Oct. 20.

Board member Chuck Moffatt asked, “Sandra, how much longer will you be Acting Director?”

Bolin replied, “Until we get the funds up until we can pay someone to do the job. I am getting the office set up in Hickman. Ann Ponder from the Purchase Area Development District (PADD) will come down once I have found and moved everything, and tell exactly what we should keep for the PADD office. An audit is coming up that will let me know what we are doing wrong. There are boxes in Fulton that need to be gone through. Fiscal Year information I am trying to get set up, so at the end of next year we can swap out the information.”

Board members offered fundraising ideas including a gift basket fundraiser again, auctioning toys, dinners, including spaghetti, chili, or tacos, and a painting class to be held before Christmas.

It was decided to have a Chili/Soup dinner on Dec. 6 with regular or white chili, or vegetable soup and desserts at both centers from 4:30 – 7 p.m.

The next Board meeting will be Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. at the Fulton Center.
