The Fulton County Pilots started their baseball season with a 1-2 record in the first week of play.

The Pilots got a strong early pitching effort from Damyen Goodrich, but coyuld not generate any offensive in their season opening loss at Carlsile County.

Goodrich held the Comets to only three hits in three innings of play, but was removed due to pitch-count restrictions.

In the fourth inning, the Comets scored six runs to seal the win.

“Damyen did just what we needed him to do, but we just didn’t put the bat on the ball to give him any support,” said Fulton County coach Charles Choate. “Carlisle County is a really good baseball team, and we knew we could not get behind and have to battle all night. It’s the first game, and we hope to take some things from this to get better.”

Goodrich had the only hit for the Pilots in the game, with Myles Amberg reaching base on a walk, and Hayden Murphy reaching on a hit-by-pitch.

Carlisle County scored nine runs in the first two innings and crusied to the district win at Hickman.

Pilots starting pitcher Dylan Hammond gave up five first inning runs, in only two-thirds of an inning of work.

The Comets had only 11 hits in the five inning game, but five walks and five errors by the Pilots helped contribute to the score.

“Things just went bad from the very start,” said coach Charles Choate. “We were hoping for some innings from Dylan (Hammond), but he just could not find the plate and struggled. I give praise to Thorne Massey who came in and battled to help us out. The guys didn’t quit, and we put some hits together and scored some runs.”

A.J. Turner led Fulton County at the plate by going 2-for-3, with Myles Amberg 1-for-2, Broc Bridges 1-for-2 and Noah Miller 1-for-2.

Miller, Hayden Murphy and Chade Everett scored runs for Fulton County.

A strong pitching performance by Damyen Goodrich, coupled with eight hits by the Pilots, helped secure the teams first win of the season.

Goodrich threw a complete game, allowing only three hits with 11 strikeouts.

“This was as good as I have seen Damyen pitch in a couple of years,” said coach Charles Choate. “He was really in a zone and making the pitches that we needed. They (Christian Fellowship) had a really good lineup, and it was a tough game. Our defense really played well and we were able to get the big, timely hits to score some runs.”

Dylan Hammond led the way for the Pilots on offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored.

A.J. Turner was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Thorne Massey 1-for-2 with two runs scored, Broc Bridges 1-for-1 with a run scored and Mason Russom 1-for-1.

Also crossing the plate for the Pilots was Damyen Goodrich, Logan Johnson and Noah Miller.
